what it is all about
Ringsend Irishtown Sustainable Energy Community (RISEC) was established in 2018 to promote sustainable energy in the area and to facilitate community members, homeowners, and organisations in the transition to a sustainable energy future.
We are a not for profit initiative supporting an energy transition which is mindful of people and planet.
In 2019, Arden Energy developed an Energy Master Plan for RISEC. This was followed by the implementation of a number of retrofit and small-scale renewable energy installation projects in community centres and sporting organisations in the area, with the support of SEAI’s Community Grants Programme.
RISEC covers an area of about 100 hectares to the south east of Dublin city. The population is c. 9,000 across c. 5,000 households comprising a mix of private and public houses and apartments. The population density is amongst the highest in Ireland with higher density apartment development to the west. Ringsend has been designated as one of Dublin City’s decarbonisation zones and is a pilot demonstration area in the EU Horizon REGEN project which commenced in 2024.
